King Dixon, who died Monday at the age of 83, was a legendary football player and a polarizing athletics director for the South Carolina Gamecocks.

He had returned to his alma mater in a temporary role this year, serving as a Board of Trustees member in the seat of A. It was Dixon's latest position at USC, after a stellar career on the football field from and as AD from The Gamecocks finished and ranked 15 th in the country.
