Jemal Ahmed Ph. Jemal has also lectured for more than a decade at the Department of Economics, Mekelle University. He received his first degree in economics from Bahir Dar University and his second degree from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and the University of Padova in Italy.

Jemal completed his Doctor of Philosophy Ph. In addition to lecturing, Jemal is involved in different research, consultancy, and community service activities. His research has so far focused on impact evaluation of development interventions such resettlement program, watershed conservation measures, agricultural extension services , agricultural growth program AGP as well as weather index insurance; innovative financing options for sustainable natural resource and watershed conservation measure; estimating of the economic value of ecosystem services of wetlands and other natural resources; feasibility study for payment for ecosystem services interventions; hydro-economics for Ethiopia, among others.
